Acupuncture in early pregnancy is recommended once a week for the delicate first twelve weeks of your pregnancy. Treatment is focused on securing the foetus and reducing the chance of miscarriage by enhancing blood circulation to the developing placenta.

These treatments reduce anxiety, aid in strengthening Kidney Qi which is the foundation of fertility in Chinese Medicine, whilst treating other specific ailments you may present with, such as morning sickness, anxiety and fatigue in the early stages of pregnancy.

Acupuncture throughout your pregnancy will also support and treat:

  • Miscarriage Prevention
  • Morning sickness
  • Emotional and physical exhaustion
  • Constipation
  • Heartburn
  • Colds & flu
  • Back pain & sciatica
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Insomnia
  • Anxiety & fear
  • Varicose veins
  • Headaches
  • Sciatica

In preparation for labour weekly Acupuncture from week 36 will prepare your body & baby for birth, with treatments designed to:

  • Ripen the cervix
  • Promote optimal energy and stamina for labour
  • Help to shorten duration of labour
  • Reduce the rate of caesarean sections and need for other interventions during labour
  • Reduce the need for pain medications or epidurals

Acupuncture can also be used to turn breech babies using Moxibustion.

Moxibustion is a Chinese herb known as Moxa (Artemisia argyi), commonly known as ‘Mugwort’. It is compressed and rolled into a cigar-shaped stick then lit and held over acupuncture points, the radiant heat produced has the effect of stimulating & encouraging the baby to move & adjust its position in preparation for labor and birth.

Acupuncture can be an effective alternative to a Syntocinon drip or Prostaglandin Gel induction. Acupuncture encourages the body to release a cascade of hormones such as oxytocin and prostaglandins to instigate labour.
